about Sean

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Encinitas Therapist at Good Therapy San Diego.

Each and every one of us possess the inherent ability to create positive change within ourselves. Whether you’re looking to alter patterns of behavior, strengthen relationships, or foster healthy development within your children, I would love the opportunity to work with you as you explore, understand, and grow. Therapy is a different journey for each individual and this is why I believe an integrated therapeutic approach tailored to YOU is essential in effective therapy. Based on your strengths, we will work together to create a personal and unique treatment plan, allowing you time to heal, grow, and reach your fullest potential.

Born in California and raised in San Diego, I received my Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from National University and also hold a B.A. in Communications from California State University San Marcos. Alongside my clinical experience working with individual adults, I also have extensive experience in family therapeutic settings and specialize in working with children, teens, young adults, and couples. Other areas of specialty include anxietydepression, learning disorders, processing disorders, and behavioral disorders including but not limited to: OCD, ADHD, ODD, and eating disorders.

There is no one-size-fits-all intervention that works for everyone and that’s why I feel it’s important to view an individual with a variety of therapeutic lenses. I utilize a combination of Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Art Therapy, Play Therapy, Humanistic approaches, and mindfulness practices including meditation and breathing techniques, just to name a few. When working with couples, we focus the relationship through the Gottman Method of relationship theory which aims on increasing closeness and friendship behaviors, addressing conflict productively, and building a life of shared meaning together. While working in the context of couples and families, I rely heavily on Bowen Family Systems Theory, which emphasizes the idea that we as human beings function as one emotional unit and it’s easier to understand ourselves and our problems when they are viewed within the context of family ties and relationships.

Regardless of method and intervention, what truly creates change is the therapeutic relationship. One of my greatest strengths is the ability to connect and I would love the opportunity to connect with you and start you’re journey of personal growth. Apart from being a therapist, I’m also a proud San Diegan! You can normally find me at Petco Park cheering for the Padres, “hanging” out at the rock-climbing gym, or spending time outside in our beautiful city. I love spending time with my wife Megan and going on hikes with our 3-year-old corgi, Homer.

If you find yourself struggling, considering therapy, or just have general questions please feel free to reach out! Whether it be myself, or another one of our amazing therapists here at GTSD, we would love to meet with you and begin the process of creating the BEST VERSION OF YOU.

Please call (619) 330-9500 or email intake@goodtherapysandiego.com to get scheduled with me or another therapist at GTSD!
