about Laura
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Are you struggling with feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or sad? Maybe you are finding it difficult to work through ongoing issues in your relationship(s). Perhaps you are looking for adaptive coping skills to process life’s day to day stressors. Life can feel difficult and overwhelming for us all at times. However, we all possess the ability to connect with our inner strength and overcome challenges. As your therapist, I would be honored to walk alongside you and support you through this process. Together we will build a relationship based on trust, empathy, and occasional humor so you feel safe and secure as we begin our work. My goal is to help you connect to your inner strength and self-awareness as well as to empower you with tools you need to move forward.
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from California State University San Marcos where I conducted research in Cognitive Psychology. I went on to obtain my Master’s Degree in Couples and Family therapy from Alliant International University. Through my studies, I have gained an in-depth knowledge of the impact of individual psychology, family systems, and human experiences in shaping our lives. This knowledge serves as a strong foundation for my work with clients.
In addition to my educational background, I have clinical experience in a variety of settings including an eating disorder treatment center, a community mental health agency, and private practice. I have experience working with individuals from adolescence through adulthood as well as couples through leading group, individual, and couples therapy sessions. I have helped client navigate and cope with a variety of presenting concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship stress, grief, trauma, and eating disorders.
I utilize techniques from a variety of therapeutic modalities including Emotionally Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, in addition to mindfulness practice, depending on the needs of each individual client. I have also had the privilege to be trained in Gottman Couples Therapy, which is the only evidence-based couples therapy currently available. Through my experience, I have found that human connection is a necessary ingredient for therapeutic change, and my work focuses heavily on creating that connection with each of my clients. My therapeutic style is to create a space of safety and warmth so that you feel understood and comfortable to explore your inner world.
Thank you for taking the time to scroll through my page. I know how overwhelming it can feel to search for the right therapist, so I want to commend you on taking the first step. If my style sounds like a good fit for you, I invite you to reach out.
Please call (619) 330-9500 or email intake@goodtherapysandiego.com to get scheduled with me or another therapist at GTSD!

"I've gone in and out of therapy for years while not being able to find the right fit for me. That ended with Laura! Her compassion and listening skills are unmatched and she asks the right amount of thoughtful questions so you can get to the answers that you are looking for by yourself instead of being spoonfed something that is not authentic to you. She's the best!"
